Colgate Palmolive:

The problems faced which can be addressed through optimization are:

  • High Logistics cost in distribution of finishing goods from plants to warehouse: The company has over 50 plants and close to 200 warehouse across globe. There is lot of cross movements. At times, there are also inter warehouse movement due to poor planning and forecast. The optimization model like Llama soft etc. can be used which can link plants to warehouse and help to reduce overall network cost. Also, it can suggest the location for warehouse which helps in minimizing overall cost
  • Truck loads: Currently from plants, mix of finished products is sent out to market. The corrugated cartons used to pack are different in dimension. The truck container used to transport is usually 20 feet and has fixed dimension. The load optimizer can be used before loading in the truck to help achieve maximum truck utilization. It will also help to reduce the logistics cost for the company
