Prepare ONE Page reflection to the readings of the Perceptual Process incorporating as well one outside source of your own choosing
Perceptual process is a method in which we understand the sensation, stimuli recognition, and information processing during information gathering. The perception is an outcome of the initial sensation so that we can understand this process with the help of cognition and concept formation.
As we know, our senses get information from external stimuli and process them within the brain, the connection between neurons help us to process information and store them in the brain. Perceptual process is a continuous function of the brain, people may not be aware of actual steps of this process because it is automatic and instantaneous. Since the understanding of sensation, we can describe the perceptual process as the biological aspect of brain functions. Perception is the organization, coordination, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the presented information.
There are eight steps to the perceptual process,
1- Environmental stimuli
2- Attended Stimuli
3- Retinal images
4- Transduction
5- Neural processing
6- Perception
7- Recognition
8- Action
Environmental stimuli are anything outside of a person that might attract attention. Everything in this environment has the potential to be perceived through the eyes, ears, nose etc.
Attended stimulus is a single thing in the environment in which a person focuses. To form an image on the retina, light passes through various parts of eyes. These aspects of the perceptual process work together and create a perception which is a key part of this process.
The brain works on sensation to create an image which can be easily understood. Neural connections store information from senses and use them in future traces and information.
Perceptual process is a key part of cognition so that we describe this process with the help of cognition and biological functions.
