What are the colonies of yeasts like? What are the colonies of molds like? What are hyphae? What are mycelia? What are pseudohyphae? Which are multicellular, Which are unicellular, etc.
specifically the multicellular/ unicellular
YEASTS colonies are like bacterial colonies. some species are different like CANDIDA are creamy, white patches on surface of skin.
MOLDS colonies are like thread like, cottony, powdery, fuzzy type.
HYPHAE is along filamentous structure of a fungus. they are main mode of vegetative growth. they release enzymes and absorbs nutrients from food.
MYCELIA is a mass of hyphae. they extend the area in which fungi can find nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus.
PSEUDOHYPHAE are different from true hyphae by their method of growth and lack of cytoplasmic connection between the cells.
MULTICELLULAR AND UNICELLULAR :-
yeasts are unicellular organisms ,with some species having the ability of developing multicellular characteristics by connected budding cells that is hyphae or pseudohyphae.
mold is multicellular because it is a fungus that grows in form of hyphae.
