Ans. Prototrophs ,can produce colonies on minimal medium - a solution containing only inorganic salts, a source of energy such as sugar and water . From these simple substances, the prototrophs synthesize all molecule of life or Any microorganism that can synthesize it's nutrients from inorganic materials , self sufficient producers of all required metabolites ( amino acid, lipids, cofactors)

Prototrophs: . Like A methionine prototrophic cell would be able to function and replicate on a medium with or without methionine.

Auxotrophs :. But cell is methionine Auxotrophic means it would need to be on a medium containing methionine or else it would not be able to replicate .

Eg. Isolates of Escherichia coli, except shigella , are generally prototrophic ,they do not require any growth factor to grow in mineral medium .
