Diana Baumrid has been proposed three initial parenting
styles-
- Authoritative parenting
- Authoritarian parenting
- Permissive parenting
- Authoritative parenting/ Democratic parenting- (High
demandingness, High responsiveness)- It has been identified that
authoritative parents have high expectations for achievement and
maturity, but they are warm and responsive for their children. this
kind of parents set some rules and regulations for their children
and get discuss openly about it and they also provide the logics
behind the rules. It has been observed that clidren of this type of
parents are usually, appear happy and content, they are more
independent, they also acieve higher academic success, they have
good self esteem, and they also interact with peers using competent
social skills, they have bettter mental health, they are less
violent.
- Authoritarian parenting (High demandingness and low
responsiveness)- This type of parents are always try to control
over their children. they make pressure on them, but don't support
them. the children of this type of parents are seems to be like
unhappy, more dependent, insecure, less self esteem, worse academic
performance, poor social skill, and they are more prone to mental
problems.
- Permissive parenting (Low demandingness and high
responsiveness)- This kind of parents set very few rules and
regulation for their children. they are warm and they don't like to
refuse the demands of their children. they don't show any
expectation from their children. the children of this kind of
parents are usually don't follow rules, they have less self
control, they show egocentric tendency, they feel discomfort while
making social interaction.
