What do you predict will be the response of the biventer cervicis to suxamethonium and then edrophonium? and discuss the pharmacological actions of suxamethonium and edrophonium , correlate to the predicted responses in this experiment.
Biventer cervicis is a muscle which is in response to Suxamethonium along with the influence of haloptane on it. there will be efflux of creatin kinase leads to muscle damage. Edrophonium inhibit Cholinesterase activity of biventer cervicis muscle and also in response to edrophonium, there will be temporary muscle contracture and augmentation of twitch tensions.
Suxamethonium is a depolarizing type of medication and it is present on the neuromuscular blocker family. Short term paralysis is the action happening by this drug. The drug works blocking the action acetylcholine in skeletal muscles. The action cannot be reversed. Neonates and Childrens are less sensitive to Suxamethonium.
Edrophonium is natural in the body. It works by prolonging the action of acetylcholine. The acetylcholinesterase action is inhibited by this drug. In skeletal muscles, acetylcholine dissociates following depolarization and hydrolyzed by the acetylcholinesterase. At neuromuscular junction this action is present.
