In: Anatomy and Physiology
Identify THREE (3) characteristics human share with other living organisms. Define differentiation. Which body system is associated with the regulation of fluid volume and composition? Provide the proper anatomical name for the following body regions: 1) head; 2) forearm; 3) wrist; 4) leg; 5) ankle. What anatomical plane divides the body into equal left and right halves? Define the following terms: 1) contralateral; 2) ventral; 3) inferior; 4) proximal. The ventral body cavity can be subdivided into which two cavities?
3 characteristics human share with other living organisms
There are many characteristics common to all living organisms . Three of them are
1) cellular organization: All living organisms are made up of cells. Cells are the basic unit of life.
2)Reproduction: Every living organisms are capable of reproduction either sexually or asexually.
3)Metabolism: These are set of chemical reactions occurring inside the living body which can be catabolic and anabolic reactions
Differentiation
It is the process by which a cell changes from one type to another in order to perform special functions.
For example, stem cells differentiate into secretory cells in intestine.
Regulation of fluid volume and composition
Kidneys plays important role in regulation of fluid volume. So
renal system is associated with composition and regulation of fluid
volume.
Anatomical names
1) head : cephalon
2) forearm : antebrachium
3) wrist : carpus
4) leg : crus(crural)
5) ankle : tarsus(tarsal)
anatomical plane which divides the body into equal left and right halves is median plane
Define
1) contralateral : occurring on the opposite side of the body
2) ventral : front or anterior of the body
3) inferior : denotes below or lower
4) proximal : nearer to the point of attachment
ventral body cavity can be subdivided into which two cavities?
1)Thoracic cavity
2)Abdominopelvic cavity
