Family planning measures helps in spacing between pregnancy, it helps in controlling the size of the family, it helps to protect against the risk of pregnancy, protects against the risk of ectopic pregnancy, protects against the cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, helps to control sexually transmitted diseases and above all it helps in controlling population.
There are several means by which family planning can be done i.e by using IUD (Intra Uterine Devices), by using contraceptive pills, monthly injections of contraceptives, male and female condoms, vaginal ring, implants, vasectomy, tubal ligation, basal body temperature method, standard days method, withdrawal methods.
Common side effects of oral contraceptive are irregular bleeding, no period, headaches, nausea, dizziness ,weight gain, weight loss, mood changes, vaginal discharge and tenderness of breast.
IUD can cause puncturing of the wall of the uterus but it usually heals without treatment. In rare cases miscarriage, preterm birth or infection can happen when woman becomes pregnant with IUD. Pelvic inflammatory disease can also happen if IUD was placed in woman when she was suffering from Chlamydia or gonorrhoea.
