If you had the opportunity to redesign your company with a new organizational structure, what are the most important factors you would consider?
The most important factors to be considered when redesigning a company with new organizational structure starts with the configuration of organizational characteristics. When referring to configurations the elements that will be considered are size of the organization, number of vertical levels, and the degree of specialization among organizational units.
Secondly organizational features like the culture of the organization, its primary operating processes and its strategic intent is also considered.
Thirdly another important factor to be considered is whether the organizational strategy, structures and roles can be easily realigned with the new objectives of the company. Looking into this aspect is important as it helps to ensure that responsibilities are not overlooked, that staffing is appropriate and that the employees and functions of the organization work with each other and not against each other.
Lastly the factors that will be focused on are the current processes, culture and talent of the organization. This will then have to be evaluated in terms of future needs of the organization. This is important as it helps in the discovery of gaps. Focus will be more on functions and skills required and it is on the basis of all these factors that the organizational structure will be re-designed.
