Describe the concept of structure in Structural Family Therapy
Structural family therapy is one of the methods of psychotherapy in which the problem of functioning within the family. The structural family therapist would be entering the family system so as to understand the culture and the rules that prevail in the family. The structural therapists would be mapping the relationships that prevail in the family, with the intent of mapping the relationships that exist in the family. These individual mapping relationship shape how the person would be existing in the system and how they fit in the system and structure of their family. Thus shapes their personality, such that the interactions of the family do not become dysfunctional.
This allows the therapist to identify the stress levels in the family structure. Understanding the structure allows the therapist to understand the symptoms which occur as a result of failing of the structures. If there is a failure in the nurturing of the crisis that occurs in the life of the person. Unless structure is not understood, the contribution of every member of the family will not be understood. Hence, structure is important to understand the person who is being treated.
