Question 01: Describe the most widely used techniques of family therapy.
Family therapy is a branch of psychotherapy, that works with families and couples in order to help them with changing situations and developments. There are various techniques of family therapy. Out of them, the most widely used are:
1) Structural therapy: here, the family structure is identified and necessary reorganizations are made in the family system.
2) Strategic therapy: here, the patterns of interactions between family members are identified and the issues in the relationships are detected.
3) Systemic therapy: here, the belief and value systems followed by the members of the family are focused upon. This therapy is also known as Milan therapy.
4) Narrative therapy: here, emphasis is laid upon the main problem that is hampering the family. The problem is targeted in isolation from the person carrying it. The therapist stresses upon the context through a problem saturated narrative.
5) Transgenerational therapy: here, the focus is on elimination of transgenerational transmission of unhelpful patterns of beliefs and behaviour.
