1. Explain the function of the thyroid, name three hormones it produces, and explain one disorder of the thyroid.
2. Name and describe 4 types of sensory receptors
* 1) Thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped gland sits low on the front of the neck. It is a endocrine gland play an important role in metabolism, growth and development of human body. It is a vital hormone gland that controls body function by steadily releasing hormones into the blood stream.
* The hormones secreted by thyroid gland are triiodothyronine(T3), Thyroxine(T4) and calcitonin.
* The most common disorder seen in women above 40 are Graves's disease. It is immune disorder caused due to overproduction of hormones( hyperthyroidism). The various symptoms includes bulging eyes, tremors, weight loss, anxiety, fatigue, menstrual cycle changes etc.
* 2) The 4 types of sensory receptors includes :-
a) Chemoreceptors( respond to chemicals)
b) Thermoreceptors(respond to temperature)
c) mechanoreceptors( respond to pressure)
d) Photoreceptors(respond to light).
The sensory receptor is a structure responds to a physical stimulus in the environment, whether internal or external. The sensory nerve ending receives information and conduts impulses transmitted to brain for interpretation and perception.
