Through article the author Cordelia Fine raises the issue of subtle expression of gender through the marketing of toys. The markets reinforce and promotes the gender stereotype by promoting girl stuffs and boy stuffs in toy manufacturing and marketing. Girls are narrowed to their traditional gender roles of domesticity of nurture and care, as these marketing strategies promote pink color for girls, and toys of domesticity and beautification for them. But, for boys they promote the toys that represents their machoism in vibrant other colors.
The author states that there is no biological connection behind this marketing strategies for toys. Any claims for scientific basis of gender is wrong because in nature, in the animal world, especially among monkeys no such gender preference is observed. Secondly the infants do not show any inclination of gender preference for toys unless they are taught and reinforced.
Thus, creating gender difference through the toys and inculcating the same is taking away their right to choose their toys and the joy of playing with them, which is an injustice towards them, and Biology doesn't justify this gender divide for toys.
