  • The culture that I come from is asian which obviously emphasises upon women being the ones to take care of the family and bring up children. They traditionally do more housework, including laundry, washing dishes, cleaning and cooking. I have been brought up in family in which I did see women playing certain stereotypical roles and men playing their part which in a way has influenced my behaviour too. I also feel responsible to take care of my family and my parents more than do my job outside. With time as a woman I have become gentler and more sensitive towards my family. Even doing small things for my parents makes me happy like making food for them or taking care of them. Biology is that of a woman so the hormones also work that way which makes me more compassionate and emotional towards my family.
  • Eventhough my family environment has never been strictly patriarchal and have motivated the girls of the house to educate themselves and work and become independent but this traditional role of woman is also very much present in my family environment, though all of us have been given choices to live the life we want. It has never been really about getting married early and having children but has been about both working, becoming financially independent as well as getting married.
