The prostate is a reproductive gland found in the male. Explain why prostate abnormalities often present with urinary symptoms.
Ans:-
concept :- Actually prostate surround the male urethra above the urogenital diaphragm. It is present all around the urethra.
urinary incontinence due to prostate occurs generally in elderly males. This condition is known as benign prostatic hypertrophy in this condition there is enlargement of median lobe of prostate and as we know that prostate is around the urethra so when there is median lobe enlargement of prostate it compresses the urethra which result in narrowing of lumen of urethra leading to decrease cross sectional area for outflow of urine leading to urinary incontinence.
If prostate is removed after their surgery then there is one more sysmptom which is called retrograde ejaculation of semen , in which during ejaculation semen goes into urinary bladder instid of going out from urethra. And this seem comes out with urine during urination.
this occurs because proastae normally prevent semen from going into urinary bladder during ejaculation by closing the lumen of prostatic urethra.
