Determine the Hybrid State of Cl in HCl

Determine the Hybrid State of Cl in HCl

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hybridisation is the mixing of atomic orbitals of different energy and symmetry to give hybrid orbitals of same energy and symmetry.

There are different kinds of hybridisation based on the percentage each orbital contribute for the same.

If we take sp hybridisation there both s and p orbitals have same contribution whereas in case of sp3 p orbital has 75% contribution. The hybridisation has effect on acidity and basicity. sp is more acidic than sp3 as s contribution is more and thus electrons will be held more close to nucleus and so more acidic.

The hybridisation of Cl in HCl is sp3. The geometry is linear.

The purchases of electric plug-in hybrid cars are on the rise in the state of Georgia. The Chevrolet Volt is selling well, despite being sold at a price that doubles that of similar gasoline powered cars made by Chevy. Other automobile makers like Ford are adding plug-in hybrids to their lines at an incredible pace. What is the reason for the rising sales of plug-in hybrids? Is this an increase in demand or an increase in quantity demanded? What will...
