2. A suspension cable has a span of 160 m and central dip of 16m. It carries a load of 5kN/m of horizontal length. Calculate the maximum and minimum tension in the cable. Find the horizontal and vertical forces in each pier under the following conditions: a) If the cable passes over frictionless rollers on the top of the pier. b) If the cable is firmly clamped to saddles on frictionless rollers on the top of piers. In each case, the back stay is inclined at 300 with the horizontal.
