  1. Assume that a simulation model of an industrial process has just been completed.
  1. A sample of output from the process and the simulation model appears below:

    Observation

    History

    Simulation

    1

    111

    109

    2

    113

    106

    76

    126

    4

    83

    96

Is there evidence to believe that the simulation adequately represents the real system with relation to this particular metric? Why or why not? State any assumptions you make.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ho: Median of History is the same as the median of Simulation.

H1: Median of History is not the same as the median of Simulation.

The p-value of the Wilcoxon rank-sum test is 0.6905 and greater than 0.05 level of significance. Hence, we can not reject the null hypothesis.

There is evidence to believe that the simulation adequately represents the real system in relation to this particular metric.

The sample size is 5. So, it does not adequate to use the parametric test. So, the nonparametric Wilcoxon rank-sum test is used for this data. Therefore, we do not any assumptions for the test.

A successful cloning project of Dimetrodon has just been completed that resulted in several live and reproducing specimens of dimetrodons. Since Dimetrodons are early "stem-mammal members", a non-mammal that gave rise to the mammalian lineage, no one knows how it goes through development, similar to fish, amphibians, chickens, reptiles, mammals, or a new unique process altogether. You have been designed to lead the project to determine how gastrulation occurs in dimetrodons. You have decided to approach the problem by locating...

A new industrial oven has just been installed at Piatt Bakery. To develop experience regarding the oven temperature, an inspector reads the temperature at four different places inside the oven each half hour starting at 8:00 a.m. The last reading was at 10:30 a.m., for a total of six samples. The first reading, taken at 8:00 a.m., was 337 degrees Fahrenheit. (Only the last two digits are given in the following table to make the computations easier.) Reading Time 1...
