4. Have you ever been part of a “dysfunctional” team? How did that work out? How about a functional team? What did you find was the biggest difference being dysfunctional or functional made to you, to your team, to the organization? (Organizational Development)
Dysfunctional team
These are the team that does not focus on the results. The good indication of a dysfunctional team is that its team members put their own needs ahead of the team'scollective goals. Attaining the personal objective is given more important rather than attaining the common objective in a dysfunctional group or team.
Functional team
Functional teams are usually composed of organizational members from several vertical levels of the organizational hierarchy who can perform specific organizational functions. Functional team members have different responsibilities but they work to perform the same function of the department.
The biggest difference being dysfunctional or functional team made to me, to the team, to the organization are:
As a member of the functional group, one is always engaged, trust worthy and work with commitment for achieving the team goal. Whereas a dysfunctional team member is less engaged and least committed.
A foundation of trust is always absent within the team in case for dysfunctional group. This is since the team members are reluctant to be vulnerable with each other and are unwilling to admit their mistake, weakness and their need for support and help.
The functional group usually prefers organizational objectives over personal interests and ultimately leads the organization to success. But a dysfunctional group do not consider for collective objectives and makes the organization a failure.
