1) Functions :

a) Kidneys :
- It is the primary organ of urinary system that produces urine.
- It releases hormone erythropoietin to stimulate production of red blood cells.


b) Ureters :
- It transports urine from kidneys to the urinary bladder.
- Peristaltic movement of smooth muscle in ureter helps moving urine downwards.


c) Urinary bladder
- It stores urine until micturation.
- Bladder wall can expand to accomodate urine as its inner lining is folded into rugae.


d) Urethra
- Urethra transports urine from urinary bladder to out of the body.
- In male urethra also serves to transport semen.  


2) Location :

a) Kidneys : Two kidneys are located on right and left side each in upper abdominal region.

b) Ureters : Two tubes run from each kidney to the urinary bladder. Half of ureters are present in abdominal area and remaing hald in pelvic area.

c) Urinary bladder : It is located above the pubic bone in pelvic area.

d) Urethra : Urethra runs from urinary bladder to the external urethra meatus. It is located in pelvic region.
