List 2 functions of the following organs:
❖ kidneys
❖ ureters
❖ urinary bladder
❖ urethra
2. Describe the locations of all the organs of urinary system
Answer
1) Functions :
a) Kidneys :
- It is the primary organ of urinary system that produces
urine.
- It releases hormone erythropoietin to stimulate production of red
blood cells.
b) Ureters :
- It transports urine from kidneys to the urinary bladder.
- Peristaltic movement of smooth muscle in ureter helps moving
urine downwards.
c) Urinary bladder
- It stores urine until micturation.
- Bladder wall can expand to accomodate urine as its inner lining

- In male urethra also serves to transport semen.
2) Location :
a) Kidneys : Two kidneys are located on right
and left side each in upper abdominal region.
b) Ureters : Two tubes run from each kidney to
the urinary bladder. Half of ureters are present in abdominal area
and remaing hald in pelvic area.
c) Urinary bladder : It is located above the
pubic bone in pelvic area.
d) Urethra : Urethra runs from urinary bladder to the external urethra meatus. It is located in pelvic region.
