(8) You have to prepare 250 mL of a 10% (v/v) of SDS solution, which is a detergent commonly used to solubilize proteins. (a) How many mL of SDS will you pipet? (b) How much water will you add?

Solutions

Expert Solution

10% v/v of SDS solution means 10 mL of SDS in 100 mL of solution.

100 mL of SDS solution needs = 10 mL of SDS

250 mL of SDS solution needs = 10*250/100

= 25 mL of SDS needed.

Triton X-100 is a widely used nonionic detergent for solubilization of membrane proteins.

a) Volume of SDS will have pipet = 25 mL

b) Volume of solution = volume of solute + volume of solvent

250 mL = 25 mL + volume of solvent

volume of solvent = 250 - 25

                             = 225 mL

Part I - Prepare and standardize a solution of Sodium Thiosulfate 1. Prepare 250 mL of a solution which is approximately 0.025 M Na2S2O3• 5H20. Because sodium thiosulfate is a hydrate, it cannot be used as a primary standard. It must be standardized in order to determine its exact concentration.
