Describe in details the association of urinary and genital systems and their functions
Urogenital system, also known as genitourinary system
in vertebrates, the organs worried with repproduction and urinary excretion. Although their features are unrelated, the structures concerned in excretion and reproduction are morphologically associated and frequently use commonducts. The principal systems of the urinary sytem in humans are the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. The predominant structures of the reproductive system in males are the testes, sperm ducts, urethra, and p-enis; in females, they're the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and v-agina
MALE UROGENTIAL SYSTEM
Structure | Function |
Testis | Production of sperm and testosterone, a sex hormone |
Epididymis | Site of sperm storage |
Ductus deferens | Transport sperm to the urethra |
Spermatic cord | Surrounded by the tunic vaginalis the sperm cord contains the nerves, blood vessels and ductus deferens |
Ampullary gland | Small gland at the end of ductus deferens that contributes to seminalfluid |
Urethra | Carry sperm and urine to the outside of the body |
p-enis | Male copulatory organ |
Cremasteric pouch | Extension of the body wall and muscles to form a space housing thetestes |
(a) Vesicular and (b) Coagulating glands |
Secretions from these glands coagulate in the v-agina creating a v-aginalplug that blocks the pathway for sperm from subsequent copulations |
Prostate | Produces seminal fluid to carry the sperm and neutralize the acidic v-agina |
FEMALE UROGENITAL SYSTEM
structure | function |
Ovary within ovarian bursa | Produces eggs and hormones to regulate estrus and pregnancy |
Ovarian bursa | Surrounds the ovary and receives the egg after ovulation |
Uterine tube | Connects the ovarian bursa to the uterine horn. Site of fertilization |
Uterine horn | Site of implantation |
Body of uterus | A muscular layer enclosing the posterior ends of the uterine horns |
V-agina | Receives sperm during mating and provides pathway to the outside |
Broad ligament | Along the length of the uterine horn to provide support |
Round ligament | Perpendicular to the broad ligament, supports the uterine horns |
Glands of the c-litoris | Produce an odoriferous secretion |
Ureter | Transport urine to the bladder |
Bladder | Store urine |
Urethra | Transport urine to the outside |
External urethral orifice withventral c-litoris | Terminal opening of the urinary system, mass of erectile tissue ventral to the urethral opening |
