How are the Digestive and Urinary systems able to maintain Homeostasis.

How are the Digestive and Urinary systems able to maintain Homeostasis.

Solutions

Expert Solution

  1. The digestive system helps to maintain homeostasis. Organs like liver, gallbladder and pancreas plays a crucial role in helping the body to stay in equilibrium. During the process of digestion the food is not only broken down and absorbed but also produces vitamins like biotin and vitamin K that provides protection for our body against bacteria. Digestive system transfer nutrients from external environment to internal. The absorbed nutrients maintain the composition of body fluids like sweat and bile. They also maintain a positive nitrogen balance.
  2. The urinary system also helps to maintain homeostasis. They regulate normal balance of water, salt and acids in the body fluids. They also cleans the blood from waste products by metabolism. A hormone called renin is secreted by kidney that raise blood pressure and increase the production of RBCs. Kidney helps to maintain electrolyte concentration by filtering electrolyte and water from blood and returned to the blood. So they maintain a balance between water and electrolyte. By means of metabolism kidneys remove waste products like urea uric acid etc and hence maintain homeostasis by regulating the concentration ad volume of different body fluids.

This term we have studied the Digestive, Nervous, Urinary, Integumentary and Respiratory Systems. For your written assignment this week list the major body systems for these systems. Describe the normal function of each of these and where the anatomically lie in the body. Describe common pathology, including signs, systems and what may cause these disease or condition. Lastly, what diagnostics are there to identify these diseases and conditions, and what treatments are currently available.
