  • Describe major structures and functions of the male and female reproduction systems

Solutions

Expert Solution

1) The major structures of male reproductive system are

Scrotal sacs - maintain temperature of the testis which is essential for spermatogenesis

Testis- It produces testosterone and sperms

Epididymis- place where sperms become mature and stored in it

Vas deferens - transports sperms from epididymis to urethra

Seminal vesicles , prostate gland , cowpers gland - These produce semen which helps in nourishment and transport of the sperms

Urethra- It allows both urine and sperms to pass through it

Pe-nis - It transports sperms into the female genital tract

2)Major structures of female reproductive system

Ovary- produces ova and hormones like estrogen and progesterone

Fallopian tube - also called oviduct. Helps in transport of ovum from ovary to the uterus

Uterus - It is the main of implantation of the embryo after fertilization

Va-gina - allows the entry of the sperms into the female genital tract .
