assess and describe the major IS planning functions, evluate and explain why maintaining alignment between IS direction and organizational strategy is important

Solutions

Expert Solution

The Information System Planning Functions starts with getting the data and ends with using the processed data in the form of information for analysis and strategy development. The IS planning functions are listed below:

a.) Data Capture: There has to be a way to get the data into the system from all the available sources. Getting data from as many sources as possible can be good for the system.

b.) Storing the Gathered data: The huge chunk of data gathered has to be stored properly, so that no intrusion can happen and the system can stay safe from any external or internal threat.

c.) Processing the Gathered Data: The data is actually of no use until it is processed. When the data is processed, it becomes meaningful and helps in calculations in the later stages.

d.) Data becomes information: The final stage of the IS planning function is using the processed data for the benefit of the company, which was the ultimate goal of IS planning.

Information System direction is important to be aligned with organizational strategy to make sure the organisational approach is data driven, and policies and procedures are only formulated based on analysis from the data collected in the past.

A data driven organizational strategy keeps the organizations safe, and future planning and assumptions becomes easy.
