The leadership attributes of small business:
1- Defining the vision- A small business requires a clear vision of the operation pattern, customer services to be provided, promotion of the product etc. A leader should be able to visualize properly the aims and the objectives the business is going to achieve. Since it is a small business, leaders should take extra care in framing the vision and pass it on to the people available for conducting the business. If the people who are to perform the task are very clear about, what they are going to achieve and by which process, they are going to do so, it will be quite easier for them to perform their work perfectly and achieve the desired target. It will be a wiser thing to do if the vision is in the written form, then the communication part also becomes quite easy. A small business vision should be very clear about how to transform it into a big business.
2. Communication ability- The clarity in communication ability is another characteristic feature that a leader must possess so as to successfully make the followers, understand, what is expected of them. The leader should think of various mediums of communication and one that is most popular among the people. They should use that media to communicate with the mass. If proper two-way communication is not there, situation of chaos will rise and that will be harmful to the organization. One advantage in small business is that the whole circle of communication is short and thus if maintained properly is more effective.
3. Self Confidence and dependability- The leader of a small business should have an acute amount of self-confidence and that confidence should provide scope to others, that they will be able to depend on them for taking decisions. The business is small and so the risk associated is quite big. If the leader has full faith in himself .The leader can sail through rough times in the business quite easily.
4. Adaptability- The leader should be able to adapt to any situation easily and should not be rigid. They should try to go with the flow. If they sustain a loss initially, they should adapt themselves and try to improve their performance in the future. If someone is not adaptive, he/ she will break down in bad times faced by the business.
5. Commitment- The leaders in small business should be fully committed to their work. They should not lose it otherwise the business will not survive. By seeing their commitment only, others will be motivated to make the small business to big.
6. Creative Ability- To sustain in the small business, it is of utmost importance to be creative and innovative in the work The more creativity will invite more customers to the business. People always like something new and creativity is one of the best tool to capture the business and target new customers.
8. Ability to follow through- The leader should be able to follow through, that the things communicated to the people are done in an appropriate way. The leader firstly communicated the vision, goals and action plans. Then a checklist has to be done by the leaders to check that the things are done in a proper way. They have to check if there is any deviation from the path and that deviation have to be rectified.
9. Ability to take action- Sometimes the leaders have to take some harsh action also, to achieve the desired target. They should not get emotional or biased in taking any decision for the benefit of the organization. They should try to understand the behavior of others emotionally, but should not be carried away by that while taking decisions.They should be practical and understanding towards the people for the sucess of their business.
