What other minerals, vitamins, and hormones play a role in calcium metabolism and should be evaluated for their impact on serum calcium levels?
Ans)
Vitamin D( 1,25- Dihydroxyvitamin D3) play an important role in calcium metabolism. The calcium absorption become lower at the time when the serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration is less than 20 nmol/L.
Parathyroid hormone play an important role in the calcium metabolism. It regulate the level of calcium and triggers the resorption and development of bone.Parathyroid hormone balance or manage the serum calcium with the help of its impact on the kidney, bone, and the gut.In case of bone the Parathyroid hormone increases the calcium discharge from big reservoir present in the bones.Bone resorption is the usual demolition of bone by the osteoclasts and this obliquely triggered by the parathyroid hormone.
Calcitriol hormone play an important role in the calcium metabolism.Calcitriol regulate the serum calcium levels by enhancing the calcium absorption in GI tract. It also helps in the healthy bone development by the process of calcification of the osteoid tissue.
