When we buy insurance, we are satisfying the "safety need",

The safety needs comes second to psychological needs, once the need for food, clothing , shelter is satisfied,

an individual satisfies his safety needs, which are need for insurance, a job security , pension which we will receive in old age.

When we buy bread at a grocery store we are satisfying our psychological needs that is need for food. If the need for food is not satisfied, the survival of human being is endangered.

When we go out with friends to watch a movie:

we are satisfying our social needs , that is the need to be loved and appreciated and be accepted by our social circle.

When we buy a hybrid car:when i buy a hybrid car i am satisfying my self esteem needs. these needs are concerned with the self esteem, self confidence, for the status and recognition of the individual.

When we buy Cadillac: when we buy Cadillac, we are investing into luxury , here we are satisfying our self actualisation needs, our need for self development. Striving to achieve full potential.

Thus is how we move up the hierarchy of needs.
