what is the element controlled by the hormones of the thyroid glands and the parathyroid gland

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hormones secreted by Thyroid gland are Thyroxine and Calcitonin.Thyroxine hormone helps in metabolism, growth and development .It helps in the brain development in infants. It can control the body metabolic rate ,heart rate, digestive function, muscle movement, brain development and bone maintenance.Thyroid hormone can control its secretion through the feedback mechanism.Calcitonin is also produced by the Parafollicular cells of thyroid gland.Calcitonin play important role in maintaining the calcium level in body.If there is excess calcium in the blood plasma calcitonin stimulate the calcium uptake by bones ,increasing bone density

Parathyroid gland secrete parathyroid hormone .Parathyroid hormone regulates the calcium level in blood plasma by release of calcium from bone into blood and reabsorption of calcium ion from Kidney and uptake of calcium from intestine. It acts on Bones and stimulate the release of calcium and phosphorus from the bones.it act on kidney and convert calcidiol into calcitriol which help in absorption of calcium from intestine into blood plasma.
