what is a gland? what are the two types of glands?
Glands are the organs that are in body and they use to secrete various substance like hormones , acid etc.
Glands can be divided into two main categories that are :
Endocrine glands are those glands that use to secrete there secretions directly into the blood stream and so they are ductless also.
The examples of endocrine glands are pituitary gland , pineal gland , ovaries , testis , adrenal gland , thyroid gland etc.
These gland use to secrete the hormone in the blood stream that is important for the various function of the body.
While exocrine glands are glands that are having ducts and they use to secrete the material outside the body cavity or on the surface. Eg sebum , saliva , sweat etc.
There are three types of exocrine gland which are :
Salivary glands comes under the merocrine gland that secrets the material from the intact cells.
Apocrine glands examples is the mammary glands in which the secretion is accumulated from the apical surface of each cell.
Holocrine are those whom are oilu sebaceous and sweat secreting glands in the body.
Glands do plays a very important role in maintaining the physiology of the body when they release the hormones in the blood stream then the functions works.
