Answer:
Menstruation occurs monthly cycles throughout a women's reproductive life. It starts from Puberty and stops at menopause in older age. This cycle ranges from 24 to 36 days but the exact day is 28days.
menstrual bleeding lasts 5 days generally. This cycle is regulated by hormones. The pituitary gland produces Luteinizing hormone tp promote ovulation and follicle-stimulating hormone to stimulate ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone.
The menstruation cycle has three phases:
1. Follicular: The menstrual cycle begins with bleeding which is the first day of this phase. Initially, estrogen and progesterone are low in this phase and menstrual bleeding occurs. After few days hormones level increases and follicle no increases which contain eggs. Later only one follicle continues to develop.
2. Ovulatory Phase: This phase starts with an increase in Luteinizing hormone. It stimulates the egg to release it occurs around 32 hours. And progesterone level starts to increase.
3. Luteal Phase- It starts after ovulation. In this phase, the estrogen level is very high. Fertilisation occurs in this phase.
