A firefighter saves the life of people or damage that can happen to their property due to fire by extinguishing blazes of fire. A firefighter aims at reducing the loss or damage that can take place due to fire by minimizing the effect of fire. They do the noble job of protecting the community from the losses that can take place due to fire. Such kind of job requires special type of training. This is a dangerous occupation as firefighters are exposed to risk to their life in the process of extinguishing fire. They have to deal with severe injuries at times. There are various pros and cons associated with being a firefighter. Some of them are mentioned below.
Pros of being a firefighter:
1) Saves the life of the people: A firefighter by extinguishing fire, saves the life of the people and minimizes the damage to their property that can take place because of fire. This acts as a biggest reward in their career. It gives a sense of social satisfaction to them. They protect and serve the community by performing this dangerous & risky job.
2) Boosts confidence: This job involves lot of risks. Firefighters are always ready to face the toughest challenges of life. Facing different types of risks everyday makes them even more confident.
3) Secured job: It is a stable & secured job as mostly firefighters are appointed by the government sector of the country. Also, there are different types of benefits associated with this job that makes it even more appealing.
4) Equipment Handling: To become a firefighter you need to be quick and smart in doing any operation. Since their job is to save the life of the people, so being smart and quick is extremely essential. So, due to this fact they become very quick at handling the equipment.
5) Respected by people: As firefighters do the noble job of saving the life of the people, so this job is extremely valuable & they always earn the respect of the people. They are doing a job that involves a higher level of responsibility i.e., the responsibility of saving the life of the people, so they deserve to be respected.
Cons of being a firefighter:
1) Nature of job: This is a dangerous and highly risky job which means that the firefighter can get into serious circumstances & sometimes there are less chances to get out of such vulnerable circumstances. Such circumstances can lead to severe injuries & sometimes even loss to their life which is extremely bad for them & their families.
2) Have to work for long hours: This kind of job requires their availability at all times that too at a moment's notice. They need to be on call always, also, the leaves that they get are very limited.
3) Exposed to Post traumatic stress disorder: The kind of circumstances that firefighters face on daily basis increases their risk of being suffering from Post traumatic stress disorder.
4) Continuous training: Special type of training is required to become a firefighter. Also, it is extremely essential to remain physically fit so that you can rescue people from the dangerous circumstances. Mental & physical fitness is very important for being a firefighter.
So, we can say that firefighters are the ones who help the people effectively in the time of crisis & reduces the harmful effects of the bad situation.
