Organizations monitoring the behavior of employees when they are not at work cannot be termed as ethical due to below important points. It will be not ethical for an employer to monitor employee behavior when the employees are not at work and being paid.

  • Employees private life should remain private and none should be allowed to keep a track of that. This breaches the employee right to have a personal life.
  • Employees cannot be judged on the basis of their actions in personal life, they should only be judged and restricted while at work.
  • Employees will feel intruded and restricted of things they want to do in personal life. This is breach of employee personal freedom.
  • Only in cases of extraordinary circumstances when there is a risk to organization loss of confidential data or any other major loss organization should involve authorized agencies to investigate the matter and not take up on itself to keep a tab on employee personal life.
