In this Discussion, you will consider the effectiveness of
different types of teams and the impact of teams on an
organization’s success.
Teams are often a primary mechanism for accomplishing the complex
tasks of modern organizations. In previous weeks, you specifically
focused on individual contributors toward organizational behavior.
Now, you will move up the “ladder” of levels of analysis to explore
the importance of teams and team performance on overall
organizational behavior and effectiveness. To do so, you need to
understand the different types of teams that may be created (e.g.,
problem-solving, self-manages, cross-functional, and virtual) and
the ways in which each type may have an impact on performance.
Post a response to the following:
Identify one type of team that is used within an organization in which you work or with which you are familiar. Briefly describe the type of team and evaluate the effectiveness of the team’s performance. Finally, explain one impact that the team has had on the organization’s success.
The type of team which my workplace usually uses within the organization for accomplishing major goals are the cross functional teams. Cross functional teams are the one which constitute of members from different areas or departments of organization who join together in a temporary to accomplish a goal . These teams are of great significance at my organization because my organization is a highly diversified organization and essentially needs to maintain an inclusive environment to promote coordination. This such teams enhance the career orientation and result in transfer of knowledge among the departments leading to overall effectiveness. Cross functional teams at my workplace are used for different projects which require different expertise such as the technical knowledge, marketing information, financial expertise, HR management etc . Therefore each department supplies one best candidate representing the department to work on such projects to deliver it successfully.
The cross functional teams help to foster creativity in the organization and promote an inclusive environment as each project involves participation of different members from the departments or areas so as to give equal participation opportunity to each which inturn also helps to enhance understanding among employees. The team works effectively through synchronising the tasks and coordinating activities to attain objectives smoothly and within deadline.
One most significant impact which the cross functional team puts on the organisational success is that it helps to manage workplace diversity thus preventing scope of disagreements, conflicts, bias, stereotypes, judgements and conflicts. These teams improve performance through fostering friendly and interdependent environment which helps to achieve goals and daily objectives efficiently.
