Why can we realistically classify the body as a complex biological machine?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Human body may be said to be very complicated machine. It may be called a biological autonomous system which depends upon various number of parameters. It is a fully controlled machine, brain being the nerve center of all the processes and controls the various subsystems. These sub-systems act like a machine which is self regulating and self-sustaining. Information from the various senses provides the input, which is processed by the brain, output system, memory, energy production system (digestion system+ respiratory system), hardware system (musculoskeletal system), signal transmission system (central nerves system ), are other types of subsystems. These subsystems act in tandem with each other. One more additional feature is of reproduction system. This conglomeration of various systems also generates and helps the individual to survive and thrive in the environment while engaging in higher mental processes like imagery and thinking.

Many biological psychologists hold to the position of biological reductionism (or determinism). They explain complex phenomenon in terms of simpler ones. Biological reductionism claims that the mind is entirely explained by physical properties of the brain. Give two arguments in favor of reductionism and two arguments against reductionism.

Multiple Regression is complex. Discuss why we use it and what it tells us, and contrast this with Multiple Correlation and the reasons we might use it. Let’s think of examples in clinical work where these techniques might enhance our ability to predict some future outcome. Show me you understand the information these measures yield.
