Gender differences cite many similarities and differences in the
way they communicate.Following are the points:
- Interaction and conversation : Researchers believe that men and
women have different brain structures and are completele different
in terms of emotional processing, cognitive aspects etc.
- They differ in the usage of non verbal cues.Men use less non
verbal cues than woman.Women tend to rely more on facial
expressiveness , smiling gestures, head nodding and use of fillers
like, hmm, ah,oh.On the other hand men use paralanguage, but less
frequently.While conversations, men use wider postures, sharp
directed movements and women's gestures are fluidic in nature.
- Men are more likely to command their personal space than women,
are assertive, self reliant and dominating,This may be contributed
from the stereotyping in cultures.
- Women are relationship oriented where they reach out to others
on the basis of commonalities whereas men tend to relate on the
basis of dominance and sometimes, status,
- Some psycholinguistic experts say that men and women has many
similaritie too.For example, men and women who belong to the same
social or communal background possess same kind of vocabulary.
Moreover, men and women with comparable educational background have
the same intellect in problem solving, reading comprehension and
task completion.
