A sample of 9-fluorenone is contaminated with an impurity that is insoluble in ethanol. 9-Fluorenone is a bright yellow solid that dissolves in hot ethanol. Use this information to design the experimental procedure to purify 9-fluorenone. Describe the procedure.
1.To purify 9.fluorenone best method is
recrystallisation,because
the impurty present in it is insoluble in hot ethanol
and 9-fluorenone is soluble.Procedure is very simple.
YOU CAN FOLLOW THE GIVEN STEPS
1.Take the given sample in Erienmeyer flask
2.Add hot solvent ethanol in to it and stirr well
Then filter WHILE it is hot.Impurties can be filterd out using
filter paper and a funnel.[as it is insoluble in hot ethanol]
3.keep the filtrate in a flask with a lid let it cool
4.once it reaches room temperature you can see the formation
of
pure crystals in the solution.
5.To get a maximum yieild tou can keep the flask in an ice bath for
around 30min
6 Isolate 9-flourinone by vacuum filtration
7.Dry the crystals obtained by air drying method or vacuum
drying.
.You can use desiccator also
