What human resource management practices does HSBC bank apply in the Arab countries? Do you think these are effective? Why or why not?
HSBC bank has a unique approach with regards to its human resource management practice in Arab countries. The bank has taken several measures to increase the representation of local nationals in its bank at all the levels of management. They are many programs designed to hire, train and retain skilled Arab nationals and preference is given to local population while filling job vacancies.
Once the candidates are hired, the bank has invested in career development programs to improve the level of skills required to perform the job. The bank has an understanding with local colleges and universities and attempts are made to identify talent at an early stage and then to train the individuals with an aim to recruit them in the future.
The human resource practice of HSBC bank in Arab countries is highly effective because the local population has a great trust in the bank and customers are willing to invest in the bank as most of its staff come from local population. The bank staff have a good understanding of the cultural practices prevalent in the society and they are able to build trust among customers which in turn brings good investment to the bank.
