General procedure involve for the N-phenylphthalimide synthesis: Phthalic anhydride and aniline in required amount are heated in the sand bath at 160 C, until melted completely. The residue is crystallized after cooling from water. Derivatives of phthalimide are necessary compounds due to their different bioactivities like anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer as well as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activity. Survey of literature discloses that structure of phthalimide interact with the AChE active site and various novel inhibitors of AChE were prepared on the basis of this pharmacophore.
AChE inhibitors inhibits the break down of an enzyme acetylcholinesterase to acetylcholine, thus raising the level as well as duration of action both of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. AChE inhibitors have medicinal uses:
