What is one example of an adherent cell in the human body?
The presence of a solid surface is necessary for the growth of adherent cells. This surface is coated with extracellular matrix-like laminin and collagen that gives support for the growth of the cell.
An example of adherence cell of the human body includes neurons. The figure shows the attachment of the cell to the surface. Cell adhesion molecule is responsible for cell to cell adhesion and attachment of the cell to the extracellular matrix. Each cell adhesion molecule contains a protein called intracellular attachment protein, which provides the site for the attachment of cytoskeletal proteins. Cell attached to the extracellular matrix by glycosaminoglycans and integrin molecules present of cell adhesion molecules. These two molecules attach an adherence cell on the extracellular matrix and induce proliferation and growth.
