Discussion Requirements:
Organizations that offer products or services, and are into manufacturing, production where work has to go on round the clock practice flextime. For instance, product-based IT companies or logistics companies promise for 24/7 customer support. Certainly, the company cannot deploy one employee to receive customer queries and resolve them. The support system will have a front end customer support representative, technical team, quick response team, all of the employees in these specific job roles need to have flextime to resolve and deliver great customer experience.
Benefits/Advantages:
1. Employees have a better work-life balance, as they can work in specified work hours only. In IT and ITes companies, employees have the flexibility to work or connect remotely.
2. Employees who are motivated due to flextime are productive.
3. Employees can spend more time accomplishing tasks and can deliver on time, as they avoid commuting to the workplace.
Disadvantages:
1. Employees lose personal touch with their colleagues, especially when they are working remotely. Connecting and discussion among peers will enhance and develop new ideas, thoughts, and lead to innovative solutions. Which might not be possible in this case
2. Especially in customer service, there could be a gap in communication when one representative ends the shift, and another one takes the charge. (This could be minimal these days, as most of the organizations have deployed CRM and it takes care of the process flow and also sets priorities).
3. Monitoring becomes a challenge. for managers and human resources, they have to ensure that employee use their time effectively and it calls for close monitoring. This causes an increase in responsibility for micromanagement which is additional.
