.Can salta marshes absorb our nutrients?
what is the diffrencebetween biomagnificaction and bioaccumulation?
Salt marsh-
- Salt marshes are interface between sea and land.
- They provide habitat for birds, shellfish and fishes.
- They take nutrients which comes from upland areas but the excess nutrients causes loss of salt marshes.
Difference between Biomagnification and Bioaccumulation-
1) Biomagnification-
- Toxic chemicals present in air, water and soil, which enter in food chain and its amount get increased when they move up in the food chain. This is called biomagnification.
- The amount is lower in first animal who takes that toxic chemical but when these organism eaten by the second one the amount get increased in that animal as he takes much food.
- Such that the largest animal in that food chain has maximum amount of that toxic chemical.
- The heavy metals like zinc, lead, mercury, cadmium are highly toxic and can be biomagnified.
- Biomagnification occurs within tropic levels.
Bioaccumulation-
- Bioaccumulattion is the increased concentration of the substances in one animal.
- The Increased toxic chemical in the body of the organism.
- This toxic chemicals could be organic chemicals, heavy metals or pesticides.
- These toxic substances enter in the system through food or water.
- Bioaccumulation occurs within tropic level.
