In your opinion, do you think leadership gaps, in general, fall more within “Theory” or “Practice?” Explain. Use examples of your own organization or an organization with which you are familiar. For example, a high profile organization such as Toyota or BP may add richness to the discussion.
Leadership gap refers to a shortcoming or lack of certain ability of the leaders to which they fail to attain their targets and motives or fail to produce a definite outcome which affects his or her degree of effectiveness . In my opinion leadership gap is more of a practical approach which exists almost everywhere in varying degrees. The leader gap existing at workplace results in lack of commitment of employees towards the work because of the inability of leader to train the followers properly to produce the desired results. The major reason of leadership gap in my workplace is the lack of adaptive environment which results in not able to constantly evolve to meet the future leadership need. The leadership at my workplace is not so rich in influencing, collaborating, and helping a talent to use their full potential therefore does not result in motivating the workforce to increase the dedication. The leadership at Toyota is facing a serious leadership gap as it is not being able to transform its culture and beliefs into the actions which are relevant to current scenario of business, thus the company's leadership lacks flexibility due to which the company is not being able to adapt to the changes and challenge the status quo easily. This is because the leaders at Toyota do not put their employees first and fail to understand the customer needs properly.
