What types of foods are associated with the most rapid changes in blood glucose levels?
High glycemic foods cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels and insulin levels. The glycemic index (GI) is a value given to food based on how quickly a food can increase the blood sugar levels. Eating of high GI foods increase the insulin levels in the body, it makes the cells to show insulin resistance. Later on, the insulin resistance leads to type to diabetes, diabetic retinopathy, kidney failure and cardiovascular diseases. Tissues like breast, prostate, and colon are shown high response towards the insulin and allow the development of cancer in these tissues
The glycemic index from 0 to 100 with: Low-GI=0-55 =Medium-GI = 56-69, High-GI = 70-100
The foods with low GI raise the blood glucose levels very slowly and helps to reduce body weight.
