Answer
- Markers are the antigens present on the surface
of red blood cells.
Based on ABO system
There are 4 blood
types based on ABO system :
Type A : It has marker 'A'
Type B : It has marker 'B'
Type AB : It has markers 'A and B'
Type O : This type do not have any markers as
it does not have antigens on the surface of their RBCs.
Based of Rh factor
Another marker is Rh factor.
The blood type that has Rh antigen or marker is known as Rh
positive and the one that lacks this Rh factor is known as Rh
negative.
Based of Rh factor, there are 8 blood groups.
A positive : It has A marker as well as Rh
marker
B positive : It has B marker as well as Rh marker
AB positive : It has A and B markers as well as Rh marker
O positive : It do not have A or B markers but do have Rh marker.
A negative : It has A marker but no Rh marker.
B negative : It has B marker but no Rh marker.
AB negative : It has A and B markers but no Rh marker.
O negative : It do not have A or B and Rh marker.
