  • Cell signaling involves a complex network of communications between cells that plays an important role in cellular acitivities like regulation of gene expression, regulation of metabolism,cell survival, cell differentiation etc.

DNA transcription and protein synthesis:

  • Signaling molecules trigger transcription factors.
  • For example NF-kB Transcription Factors are structurally-related eukaryotic transcription factors that regulate the expression of genes.
  • NF -kB siganling pathway is involved in the transcription regulation of cytokines, cell adhesion molecules, chemokines and complement factors.
  • Ras/MAP kinase pathway is also invovled in regulation of gene expression

Protein Synthesis:.

  • The process of protein synthesis is called as translation.
  • Signaling pathways are utilized by cells to control and regulate the process of protein synthesis.
