This assignment requires you to look at one interface for a product of your choice, identify what it was developed for, and then trace back its history (to the origin if possible) to look for similar solutions. This way you'll be clearer what the original problem is and how human through out history has managed it. You'll see that whole or part of the very early solutions seem to stay in most of the newer solutions, and you'll be able to identify and explain which solution are more effective than others; and you'll probably can predict how the next generation of solution would be.

For example, if you look at the phone today and some of the phones have been in the market in the last 50 years, You'll see there are some common functionality, interface, and user's interactions. If you keep tracing back, you'll know why telephone was invented and the reason why it works in a certain way. Ask yourself, what human had used to accomplish similar tasks the phone provides them before it was invented. You'll get the entire picture.

1. What was the original problem?

To provide communication in long distance via voice and messages.

2. Revolution of technology

1. Telephone: The wired telephone were invented to communicate via voice over long distances. The technologies we not much developed to allow multiple users to talk through same channel. So trunk calling or call booking was required if you need to communicate with someone outside the local network
2. Telegraph: The telegrams mark the first milestone to communicate wireless. The telegram is sent through message codes interpreted while receiving.The sending messages through telegram is paid per character or word.
3. Email : The emails are sent using a computer through an email service provider. The emails got popularity because of the speed at which it is sent. The receiver receives the message instantly also we can attach picture or videos.
4. Pager : The pager is used to communicate wirelessly over messages. The drawback of Telegram is it is not handy and the cost of sending through it while the pager allows to send messages and receive messages easily e through a wireless network provided by any cellular service provider.
5. Mobile phones: The mobile phones of old generation are used to communicate via voice and messages wirelessly. Various telecommunication service providers uses communication towers to provide service wireless in the area. Wireless connections are finally connected to the the major telecommunication channels .
6. The introduction of Smart Phones made a drastic changes in the telecommunication industry and the electronic industry. Voice and messages became a basic functionality in the smartphone The features provided by a computer is now available through a smartphone

3. Does the requirement remain same?

No, the requirement will change time to time based on the technology available. This smartphone era have replaced the several electronic gadgets with a handy device. Latest smartphones replaced cameras, music devices, radio, clock, alarm, navigation devices, Torch, eshopping etc.

The Future smartphones will provide new features it will satisfy the new generation.
