Ans.

Fibroblasts are cells that are responsible for the synthesis of extracellular matrix and collagen and produces the strome for animal tissues. In animals they form the most common cells of the connective tissue. In human,it is most abundantly found in the dermis of the skin.

A human foreskin fibroblasts is the fibroblast cells isolated from the foreskin of males, post circumcision procedures.

Human foreskin fibroblast have been used in the field of medical science in several ways. Some of the applications of HFFs are:

  • HFFs are used in the field of medical science as feeder cells for the human embryonic stem cell cultivation.
  • The culture of HFFs are being used to obtain induced pluripotent stem cells.
  • In the diagnosis of clostridium difficile.
  • For testing the effect and toxicity of substances on normal cells.
  • In the viral culture of human cytomegalovirus.
  • For studying the pathogenesis of other microbes.
  • For studying cellular physiology and cellular interactios.
