A:
The induction process is meant for new joinees as well as employees transferring from one job to another. It is aimed at welcoming new joinees to their workplace, impart basic knowledge about the company and their job expectations, and acclimatize them into the new work environment.
The induction process includes:
i. Greeting and welcoming new staff: Welcoming new staff is essential to put them at ease and make them comfortable in the new work environment.
ii. Imparting information on the job: All relevant information should be provided at this stage in terms of duties, responsibilities, hierarchy, reporting structure, etc., should be made clear.
iii. Terms and conditions of employment: All terms and conditions including duration of contract, disciplinary procedures, notice period, performance management system, growth, holidays, code of conduct, etc., should be explained clearly and transparently and even an employee handbook should be provided.
iv. Company rules: Company rules on timings, code of conduct, leaves policy, performance management, etc. should be explained with the help of a handbook.
v. Security: Staff security and work place security must be explained including safekeeping on company equipment when out of office such as company laptop, mobile phone, vehicle, etc.
vi. Health and safety: All health and safety measures should be explained including safety equipment and procedures, training, fire fighting, evacuation, first aid, hospitals and ambulance services, etc.
vii. Information security and non-disclosure: Staff emails access can be provided, along with staff id card, etc.
viii.Training and development programs: All training and development programs should be explained with benefits to staff.
ix. Labour union representation: Staff can choose to join a trade union of their choice or not and this can be explained too for staff
x. Staff benefits and facilities: Staff benefits in terms of medical or health care, perks, entitlements like meals, retirement fund, etc., should be explained at this stage.
xi. Work place layout and introductions: Work place layout in terms of map and introductions to key team members and senior management teams and heads of departments can be undertaken to make the new staff able to access their new work place.
