Solutions

Expert Solution

1. An individual is often considered having leadership qualities when he or she is able to manage people around and understands the strengths and weaknesses of them. As a leader, the most important quality is to be empathetic towards the team and at the same time be able to understand how well he or she is able extract the best results out of each individual.

Each individual is different and has different skills, thought process and motivational factors. Something that might attract one individual may not attract the other and therefore the result differs. Therefore, as a leader, to understand what interests and capabilities that his or her team has is of utmost importance. For example, if I have an interest in sports and am encouraged to play more sports, I will be motivated to deliver best results rather than someone who is not interested in sports.

Overall, assigning tasks and responsibilities according to the interests and skill sets motivates individuals and they would be dedicated towards that. The results will also be in favor which for a leader is the primary goal. I would like to follow the same and try to assign related tasks to my team where every individual from my team will be interested in and motivate them to do better than their previous efforts.

2. Transformational leadership is a skill which not every leader possesses. There are leaders who are more inclined towards the results and in the process fail to understand the needs, interests and skills of the team members. To explain this by quoting a situation, the best example would be sports. In a team sport, each individual has a different expertise and a mindset. Some are aggressive while some are technically strong in their field of expertise. Some team members even possess both qualities. A leader in this scenario, would be able to trace the strengths and weaknesses of each team member and transform himself or herself by involving members of the team in situations where they are best suited. In sports, there are different scenarios and the job of the leader is to assess the situation and handle it carefully in order to win. In this, the leader would neec the necessary support from the team members and he or should should be able to deploy individuals who are best suited for that situation.

In a corporate scenario where there is competition everywhere and that adds to pressure. There are people who can handle pressure seamlessly and there are people who get bogged down due to pressure. The leader's role is to encourage people who are able to handle pressure by providing them necessary support. The people who are discouraged as they are not able handle the situation, a leader should become a guide and teach them to overcome pressure and encourage them to deliver to the best of their capabilities.
